Yes I know they all belong to Reed Business Information Ltd., everyone knows that.

That is not the point whether they belong to same group or not.

The point here is linking an irrelevant website. New Scientist and Web Development have nothing in common.

Any one looking at that link would immediately come to conclusion that it is paid link before they realize that both belong to same company.

I wouldn’t expect such a reputed Science Magazine website to do such blunder.

They could have gone for the Banner advert even though that would look odd.

It is crystal clear that they want to gain high ranking via linking (deliberately and from irrelevant website) from High PR and gain higher ranking in search results. This goes against Google’s Policy.

If you have contacts in MIT or NASA and you manage to get a link as kind of free goodies then it is wonderful.

If you are planning to pay for it then forget about it.

Links are everything for Google Search Algorithm and if people start to buy links then there would be chaos.

Rich businesses would dominate the Internet while not so rich would be cornered.

If you have money you can buy millions of links and thus get top ranking on Google which will then defeat the fundamental philosophy of Google’s search algorithm which is based on the free and organic result (Ahem!!!).

Buying and Selling links are not welcomed on Google even though 90% (as per my research) of businesses wouldn’t mind to buy links.

What a dumb way to build links.

Thousands of links from irrelevant site will not do any good, it looks so much spam.

Google turns blind eyes on big guys. Google’s T&C is biased towards well known website and even if they sell links it would be ignored.
